A Life in Hair
From a young age, I always knew I would pursue a career in hair. My earliest memories involve running my fingers through my mum’s hair—comforted by its silky texture and fascinated by how it felt, soft and cool to the touch. By the age of 14, I was already practising perms, colours, and blow-dries, and by age 16, I was working in salons. At age 19, while studying at hair college and working part-time in a local salon, I successfully qualified as a hairdresser.
As life went on, I continued working while raising my children and later returned to hair college to complete my SVQ qualification. At 29, my husband — a barber — and I opened our first salon.
We built our business through hard work, smart decisions, and passion for what we do, which led to consistent growth. As a result, we soon managed two successful salons with a fantastic team of twelve stylists.
Alongside our successful salons, I also developed an interest in hair extensions. I trained in various fitting techniques and offered bespoke services using premium ‘Remy Hair’. However, sourcing reliable extensions often meant waiting weeks — so at age 45, I decided to create my own brand: Hair NY Extensions, which provides the best quality hair and the best value for money.
Through our ongoing perseverance and passion for this, it has become successful over time, enabling clients to have consultations, colour matches, and fittings all in one visit — with trusted, salon-grade quality every time.
The Search for the Perfect Haircare
Clients would often ask me, “Norah, what shampoo do you recommend?”
I've always recommended sulphate-free products, but I could never find a range that truly cared for both natural hair and extensions. Many products still left hair feeling dry, heavy or coated. I wanted something that helped maintain hair feeling clean, soft, and beautifully hydrated.
In my ongoing research, I believed I had discovered the best hair product a few years ago; excitedly, I began collaborating with this large brand to create a salon range — it sold well initially, but soon clients provided feedback that it made their hair feel dry. I was experiencing the same results myself with the product and realised that if I wanted something truly gentle and effective, I’d have to create it myself.
I knew I had a long and demanding journey ahead of me; however, I set about working through the trials and tribulations of developing my own product containing everything i had been dreaming of for my clients and myself, as my contribution to this industry!
Creating HNY Haircare
From a Dream to a Plan: HNY Haircare was Born.
Collaborating with cosmetic chemists, I have developed a formula that hydrates, nourishes, and safeguards the hair — enhancing softness, shine, and manageability without any build-up.
My products are tested in UK laboratories and meet all cosmetic safety standards, proudly designed for natural hair and great for hair extensions. It took two years from starting this journey to developing the now heavenly formula, ready for launch. I have personally tried and tested each product, both myself and with selected clients — and the results speak for themselves.
One client said, “Oh my, what did you use in my hair?... It’s the best my hair has ever felt and looked” — and I’ll never forget the joy of telling her, “It’s my own product.”
Revelation Beryl: A Tribute to My Mum
My late Mum, Beryl, was the very first person to try my formula. Even during her illness, she remained my biggest supporter. I remember washing her hair with my very first sample — a moment I’ll treasure forever.
To honour her, my first shampoo is named Revelation Beryl, inspired by the precious stone from the Book of Revelation, said to be part of heaven’s foundation.
My conditioner, Revelation Topaz, and the leave-in conditioning spray, Revelation Chrysoprase, uphold this theme of strength, beauty, and faith.
My goal is to complete all twelve gemstones of the heavenly foundations with future products — including a heat protection spray, nourishing serum, and deep conditioning mask and so forth.
